VER since Ken-l neth Ar no I d, 30 - y e a r - old, o rd in a r y business-man pilot from Boise, Idaho, ' off "flying touched the saucers " mystery by report ing, on the afternoon of June 24, 1947, that he had seen " nine shiny discs like metal hub-caps flip-flap ping along at about 1,200 m.p.h." only one fact seems uite certain. Nobody has yet proved de nitely that such things do or o not exist. Air Force finding T HIS includes the U.S. Air ' Force. still investigating reparts about "ce\estial crockery," though officially last December, after checking 375 cases, it closed down "Project Saucer." a special investigation group of Intelli gence officers with headquarters i~Ohio. At that time it was stated in a b nket turn-down that all re p ·ts were : . Misinterpretation of " con ventiona.l " aerial objects. Mild form of mass hysteria.. 3. Hoaxes. B'ut steadily, from 1947 up till a. few days ago, reports of curious objects that "go whizz in the air " keep on coming in from all over the United States. They have now been reported from 43 out of the 48 States, with the majority coming from the south and east and near the Mexi can border. They have a.1so. of course, been reports from other parts of the world, from Scandinavia, Africa, China, the Far East. The objects allegedly seen here have ranged from the now almol conventional flying disc o "sa u c er " sometimes wi " fuzzy " edges. or lit up at night to torpedo· shaped wingles " space ships" showing regular 1 bws vi rrghts in the 4 Mk• a:i!d orange flames coming from the tail. Sometimes they have been re wrted shaped like tubes. pillars, spheres. But two facts seem to remain constant. They a.re all said to be either white or silver, and to move across the sky inan und~lat ing way, tut!ng first in ime direc tion then the other, rising and falli'ng, before flnallv disappear ing into nothing or over the horizon. • 'Pilot's chase ONE u.s.
