Leon Davidson pressed the CIA on a message
CIA, 1958.
This is a January 9, 1958 CIA Chicago Office memo on Case 17708, marked closed, reporting a phone call with Dr. Leon Davidson and telling him the agency could not resolve his question about a space message because the records had been destroyed by the agency that evaluated them. It shows a private researcher pressing the CIA for answers about a specific story and getting a reply more about paperwork than revelation. The exchange is a clear example of how suspicion grows when an agency cannot or will not give satisfying detail.
