A small target crossed the Gulf of Aden

This report describes a U.S. Navy P-8A aircraft observing an unidentified low-flying object northwest of Latakia, Syria, on November 18, 2016, and then assesses it as normal activity consistent with the nearby Russian carrier task group. It is a clear example of an unidentified label paired with a likely ordinary military explanation. Unidentified in the moment does not mean unexplained forever.
