AFOIN-2A Major Fournet/AC/71379 27 October 1952 MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD PROBLEM: 1. To prepare a non-military letter to Mr. Gerald W. Harrington of Providence, Rhode Island. FACTS AND DISCUSSION: 2. In a letter to the USAF dated 9 Oct 52 Mr. Harrington describes in detail an observation of an unidentified flying object made aboard the SS Caronia on 5 Oct 52. The data which he includes is somewhat remarkable in that it is very unusual to receive such details from the ordinary citizen. He even took the trouble to write the ship's captain at a later date and obtain the ship's location at the time of the observation. 3. A reply to Mr. Harrington is attached. 4. Subject matter is not considered suitable for inclusion in the Daily Staff Digest. ACTION RECOMMENDED: 5. Because of Mr. Harrington's prominent professional position and the excellence of his report, it is strongly recommended that the attached reply be signed by General Samford. 6. Approval, signature and dispatch of attached reply. COORDINATION: AFOIN-2A2 COE/CH/SMITH AFOIN-2A ARW/4/SMITH AFOIN-2 J.M. AGGLE AFOIN
