SUBJECT: UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT OBSERVED EARLY MORNING 9/5/60 DATE: 10/7/60 ALL INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS UNCLASSIFIED DATE 9/5/60 BY 10-6-60 Alethea Charney, 464 Jefferson Ave. Elizabeth, New Jersey, telephonically contacted the Newark office on 10/7/60. Complainant indicated, that she had telephonically advised the Newark office 9/5/60, that she had seen a flying saucer in the early morning. On 10/7/60 she received a call from a person who identified himself as a Federal officer, and he indicated that he was coming to see her, regarding the information she had concerning the flying saucer. The caller never kept his appointment with her. Charney desired to know if it had been a FBI agent who had made this call. A search of the indices by the writer failed to disclose any record of the above mentioned call. A check with OSI Newark, failed to reflect any more light on the problem. Charney was contacted and advised, that it was not an FBI agent that had contacted her, but it could have been one of several federal agencies. She was requested to advise the Newark office if she received any more information. She indicated she would do so.
