The fireflies reappear at sunrise
NASA, Low Earth Orbit, 1963.
The classic firefly moment is plain in the mission audio. The astronaut describes a shower of brilliant particles around the spacecraft. The later debriefs make this less mysterious, not less interesting.
From the file
These small luminescent particles drift away from you. In this light, they appear brilliant white. They appear to move on out, curve around, back toward the flight path.
