ALTERNATE PRESERVATION, PACKAGI NG, AND PACKING (DEC 1991)
(a ) The Offerer may s ubmit two unit prices for each item--one
based on use of the military
preservation, packaging, or packi ng
requirements of the solicitat i on; and an alternate based on use
of commercial or i ndustrial preservati on, packaging, or packing of equal or better protection than
the military .
(b) If the Offerer s ubmits two unit prices , the following
information, as a minimum, shal l be
submitted wi th the offer to allow evaluation of t he alternate-­
(1 ) The per uni t/item cost of commercial or industrial
preservation , packaging, a nd packing;
(2) The per uni t/item cost of mi l i tary preservation, packaging,
and packing;
(3) The description of commercial o r industrial preservation,
packaging, and packing procedures, including material
specificati ons, when applicable , to incl ude-­
(i) Method of preservation;
(ii) Quantity per unit package;
(iii ) Cleaning/dr ying treatment ;
(i v) Preservation treatment ;
(v) Wrapping materials ;
(vi ) Cushioning/dunnage material ;
(vii ) Thi c kness of cushioning;
(viii ) Unit cont a i ner;
(ix) Unit package gross weight and dimensions ;
(x) Packing; and
(xi) Packing gross weight and d i mensions; and
(4 ) Item c haracteristics , to i nclude-­
(i)
Material and finish;
(ii) Net weight;
(iii} Net dimensions; and
(i v ) Fragility .
(c ) If t he Contracting Officer does not evaluate or accept the Offerer's proposed a l ternate
commercial or i ndustrial p reservation,
packaging, or packi ng, the Offerer agrees to p reserve,
package , or pack in accordance with the specified military requirements .

Definitions .
As used i n this c l ause­
"Advance shipment not i ce " means an electronic noti fication used to l i st the contents of a shi pment
of goods as we l l as additional information re l ating
to t he shipment , such as order i nformation,
product description, physical
characteristics , type of packaging, marking, carrier information, a nd
configurat i on of good s within the transportation equipment .
"Bul k commodities " means the following commodities , when s hipped i n rail tank cars, tanker t r ucks ,
t railers, other bulk wheel ed conveyances, or pipe l ines :
(1)
Sand .
(2 )
Gravel.
(3 )
Bulk liquids (water, c hemicals, or petroleum products ).
(4 )
Ready- mix concrete or similar construction materials .
(5 )
Coal or combustibl es such as fire wood.
(6)
Agri cultural products s uch as seeds , grai ns, or a nima l feed .
